A health psychologist is a licensed professional with extensive training in health issues, psychological assessment and treatment, and expertise in a variety of therapeutic approaches that can control symptoms and mobilize the body’s ability to heal. 

Dr. Zukiwski has an extensive background in health psychology that includes training at the Cross Cancer Institute, University of Alberta Hospital HIV Clinic (Dept. of Psychology), and the Mount Carmel Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Columbus, Ohio. This training provided valuable experience helping patients and their families cope with chronic and life threatening diseases. Dr. Zukiwski has also worked with first nations communities on issues of residential schools, trauma and sexual abuse.

While earning his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Counselling Psychology at the University of Alberta, Dr. Zukiwski developed “Mind Your Asthma”, a treatment for asthma that trains patients to reduce airway inflammation using mental imagery. His Doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology in Columbus, Ohio, featured training in clinical and health psychology, neuropsychological assessment, and treatment of addictions. Dr. Zukiwski is the only psychologist in Canada who is also a Certified Asthma Educator. 

Treatment methods used by Dr. Zukiwski include: strategic and solution focused therapy, relaxation and imagery therapies, hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming & family therapy. Treatment areas include depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, insomnia, and smoking cessation.
